Persistence of Vision is the fundamental idea underlining any form of moving picture show. It is the concept that forces the human brain to see movement out of a series of closely related pictures, such as those of a car moving. The brain merges the images and 'connects the dots' between the two, making motion between the two then seem real, like in every form of TV media. The more FPS, or frames per second, the more real it seems, as there are less dots for your brain to connect between the two images.
